DAYTON SWEEPS VOLLEYBALL, 3-0

11.6.04 | Women's Volleyball

DAYTON, OH - Temple's critical swing through Ohio did not go exactly as planned as the Owls were swept, 3-0, for the second straight day, this time to Atlantic 10 conference leader Dayton. The Flyers (20-6, 11-1 A-10) move within one victory of wrapping up the number one seed in the Atlantic 10 Championships, while TU (11-16, 8-3) remains in third place behind UD and Xavier.

In game one, the Cherry and White hit a respectable .314 but couldn't manage to pull out the win, losing 30-21. Unfortunatley, that would be as high as the Owls would hit for the remainder of the contest.

Dayton took game two (30-22) and game three (30-18) as well, with Temple managing to hit .062 and .146, respectively. Freshmen Yue Liu led the way for the Owls with 10 kills and 11 digs. Senior Zhen Jia Liu and freshman Sun Ying Ling each knocked home nine kills. Senior Alison Runk dished 33 assists in defeat.

The Flyers' Christy Utnage and Faye Barnhost each recorded 17 kills to tie for match honors. Nicole Schott had 47 assists for UD.

Temple returns to play on Tuesday against city rival La Salle. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
