BROWNE TAKES FIRST IN FOIL AT TEMPLE OPEN

PHILADELPHIA-- Senior Jeanne Browne finished first in the foil competition while two other Temple fencers also reached the foil semifinals at the 25th Annual Temple Open held at McGonigle Hall today. The open is a traditional season kickoff to the fencing season. It is Temple's largest to date with over 20 schools represented from Florida to Brandeis.

Browne was crowned Temple Open Foil Champion after she defeated Tamara Najm of Penn State. Juniors Jenna Remmert, who finished eighth, and Maryanne Forsythe, who finished twelfth, rounded out the semifinalists for the Owls.

Sophomore Rachel Eschenbach finished 25th in the epee competition while freshmen Ninah Bell finished 39th. Cornell's Meghan Phair took first place in the epee competition.

In the women's sabre competition, senior Nnenna Okoro finished 20th, junior Keri Ecker finished 24th, and freshman Kristine Jones finished 26th. Sophomore Kaitlyn White and senior Amanda Gerwer rounded out the sabre squad, finishing 40th and 44th, respectively. Penn State's Sophia Hiss finished first in the sabre competition.

The Temple Open continues tomorrow with the men's foil, sabre, and epee competitions. Complete results of women's foil, epee, and sabre will be available tomorrow.
