FENCING TEAM DROPS THREE AT CORNELL

ITHICA, N.Y. - Battling three teams in the top 10, the fencing team went 1-3 at Cornell on Sunday. Sophomore Jenna Remmert went 7-1 on the day in foil action, helping the Owls defeat host Cornell 16-11. Temple dropped the remaining three contests to fifth-ranked Penn (20-7), fourth-ranked Columbia (20-7) and second-ranked Penn State (24-3).
Also in foil action, junior Jeanne Browne added a 5-5 effort while senior Nerita Brumell finished the day at 2-5. Sophomore Maryanne Forsythe went 2-6 on the day and freshman Leigh Adel-Arnold went 0-2 to round out the foil action.
Senior Aziza Hassan led the way for the sabre squad with a 5-7 record, while junior Nnennaya Okoro and sophomore Keri Ecker finished the day at 1-11 and 2-10 respectively.
For the epée squad, senior Sara Forsythe finished the day at 6-6 while senior Stephanie Sargent went 3-9 and freshman Rachel Eschenbach went 0-12.
The Owls will next compete in the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association Championships at Fairleigh Dickinson University on March 7 beginning at 9 a.m.
