MOUNT ST. MARY'S HANDS BASEBALL 10-2 DEFEAT AT THE PAPA JOHN HOMESTEAD CHALLENGE

HOMESTEAD, FL -- Justin Davis pitched a complete game scattering 10 hits as Mount St. Mary's handed Temple its third straight defeat, 10-2, at the Papa John Homestead Challenge on Thursday afternoon.

Although the Owls did have three batters that had two hits apiece, they could not put any rally together to mount a threat. Pete Colon (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone), John Quigley (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and third baseman Mike Weckenman (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) were the Owls with a pair of hits each.

Mount St. Mary's jumped out to an 8-1 lead as the Mountaineers (7-3) scored seven runs on 10 hits off Owl starter and loser Tim Andrel (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) (0-2).

Trailing 5-0 in the home third, the Owls (3-4) loaded the bases with one out, but Davis struck out designated hitter Jason Adamek (Eagleville, PA/Methacton) and retired Al Roach (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) on a pop out to shortstop.

Temple did get on the board in the fourth. Colon and Jason Connor (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) led off the inning with singles. Quigley followed with an RBI single but a double play off the bat of Weckenman prevented any further rally.

Once again Temple got a solid relief outing from Chris Hamilton (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown) but the bats did little to get the Owls back in the game.

The Owls continue play later this afternoon when they take on Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m. as they continue play in the Papa John Homestead Challenge.
