THREE FENCERS QUALIFY FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

MADISON, N.J. -- Nine Temple fencers competed in the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships held at Drew University on Saturday, March 13. At the end of competition on Saturday, three Owls had qualified for the NCAA Championships.
In the women's epée competition, senior Sara Forsythe led all Owls, placing sixth and earning a bid to the NCAA Championships. Senior Stephanie Sargent placed eighth and will be nominated for an at-large spot in the NCAA Championships. Penn State's Katarzyna Trzopek took first in the women's epée competition.
Sophomore Jenna Remmert led all Owls in women's foil action finishing fourth and earning a bid to the NCAAs. Senior Nerita Brumell placed ninth and will be nominated for an at-large spot in the NCAAs. Sophomore Maryanne Forsythe and freshman Leigh Adel-Arnold also placed for the Owls, finishing 10th and 13th respectively. Junior Jeanne Browne, a two-time NCAA qualifier, was forced to withdraw from competition due to an emergency appendectomy she had last week. Princeton's Jacqueline Leahy took first place in the women's foil competition.
In the women's sabre competition, senior Aziza Hassan had a squad-best fifth place finish, earning a bid to the NCAAs. Junior Nennaya Okoro placed 23rd and Keri Ecker finished 24th for Temple. Penn's Annika Eiremo took first place in women's sabre action.
