OWLS OPEN TEMPLE'S AMBLER FIELD WITH 6-2 WIN OVER UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

It was a long wait as four other projected home openers were cancelled due to either bad weather or poor field conditions. But when a brief shower past by in the early afternoon, the Owls finally received a solid pitching effort from four different hurlers.
Starter Matt Lawless pitched into the fourth inning and after allowing three hits to leadoff the inning, reliever and eventual winner, Eric Filson, came on to pitch three solid innings allowing only two hits. The win was Filson's first career victory.
Temple (7-7) jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Following a walk to Pete Colon and an errant pickoff that moved Colon to second, Jason Connor knocked in the first of his four RBI's with a single to right center. Connor eventually scored on a two-out clutch single by Mike Brown.
The Owls increase their lead by adding another pair of runs in the home third. Jason Adamek led off the inning with a single and following a hit batter, Al Roach grounded to short. A wild throw allowed Adamek to score while Quigley advanced to third. He would score on a sacrifice fly by Connor.
Meanwhile, pitching coach Toby Fisher finally got what he had hoped for from his young staff. After Lawless and Filson went the first six innings, Tim Andrel came on and allowed a run in two innings pitched and Josiah Platchek finished up the ninth by retiring the Devils (4-8) in order.
The Owls open up Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday when they visit a much-improved La Salle team. A scheduled doubleheader is set to being at Noon. Following Saturday's twinbill, a 2:00 p.m. single game is scheduled on Sunday.
