FENCING PLACES 12TH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

WALTHAM, MASS. -- Temple's fencing team finished 12th among women's teams at the NCAA Fencing Championships held at Brandeis University March 25-26. The Owls earned their 12th place ranking behind the performances of seniors Aziza Hassan and Sara Forsythe and sophomore Jenna Remmert.

Hassan finished 13th in sabre action and Forsythe placed 17th in epée action. Sophomore Jenna Remmert placed 19th in the foil competition.

In the overall team competition, Ohio State University took first place, with Penn State and Notre Dame finishing second and third. Notre Dame dominated the women's events, taking first in two out of three weapons.

In women's foil, Alicja Kryczalo (Notre Dame) finished in first place; Andrea Ament (Notre Dame) took second; and Jacqueline Leahy (Princeton) finished in third place.

Notre Dame's Valerie Providenza also took first place in the women's sabre competition; Sophie Hiss (Penn State) finished second; and Louise Bond-Williams (Ohio State) took third place.

In women's epee, Anna Garina (Wayne State) finished in first place; Kerry Walton (Notre Dame) took second; and Anne Kercsmar (Duke) finished third.
