BASEBALL CONTINUES HOT HITTING POUNDING OUT 20 HITS IN 15-9 WIN OVER NAVY
3.30.04 | Baseball
The Owls (12-7) were led once again by Al Roach who had four hits while Connor had three hits and five runs batted in. Catcher Marc Wagner also chipped in with three hits.
Tied at two in the third, the Owls bats went to work. Connor hit a three-run homer following a John Quigley walk and a double by Roach. The Owls expanded that lead by scoring four runs in the visitors fourth with the big hit, once again, coming off the bat of shortstop Connor. His double down the leftfield line plated two runs as the Owls took what looked like a comfortable 9-3 lead.
Navy (7-20) fought back with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-7.
The Owls used four pitchers in the contest with Josiah Platchek (1-1) picking up his first victory in an Owl uniform. He relieved starter Tim Andrel in the third and pitched three innings. Rob Licata relieved Platchek before Justin Mendek came on to record the last six outs of the game, picking up his first save of the season.
Weather permitting, the Owls will host Towson University at Temple's Ambler Field at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
