BASEBALL OFF TO 2-0 START AFTER DEFEATING MAINE 10-7 AT THE PAPA JOHN HOMESTEAD CHALLENGE
3.6.04 | Baseball
Jason Connor (Noristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) hit a three-run home run and Al Roach (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had three hits, including his 100th in an Owl uniform as Skip Wilson's club won for the second consecutive night. Hamilton (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown) came on in relief in the fifth inning for starter Chris Kurtz (Richboro, PA/Monsignor Bonnor) and limited Maine (2-4) to just three hits over the last four and one-third innings while picking up his first win of the season.
After the Owls (2-0) jumped out in front, the Black Bears scored four runs in the third to knot the game at five-all. But the Owls would regain the lead for good in the home fourth. Following a Roach single and a walk to John Quigley (Bendalem, PA/Bensalem), Connor blasted a three-run homer, his first of the young season.
Maine would come right back with a pair of runs before Hamilton would come in and put out the fire. The Owls would add a pair of single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for some breathing room.
The Owls were outhit, 12 to eight, but took advantage of eight walks by Black Bear pitchers.
The Owls continue play down south again tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. when they take on the Evansville Aces.
