BASEBALL RALLIES FOR 9-8 WIN OVER WAGNER
3.7.04 | Baseball
The Owls (3-1) fell behind 7-2 following some sloppy fielding but tallied four runs in the sixth and three in the eighth to complete the comeback. The big hit was a two-out game-tying double by right fielder Pete Colon (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Chris Kurtz (Richboro, PA/Monsignor Bonnor) pitched in relief and was superb. He allowed just one run in 3.1 innings pitched to pick up his first win on the young season.
The Owls began to mount their comeback in the home sixth. Jason Connor (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kendrick) began the inning with a home run. Following a Mike Weckenman (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) single, Freddy Hilliard (Broomall, PA/Upper Darby) singled. A walk loaded the bases and following a hit batter, back-to-back walks brought in the third and fourth runs of the inning.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks touched up Owls reliever Chris Kurtz for a run in the seventh but the lanky right hander blanked Wagner the rest of the way.
The Owls winning rally started with a Mike Silverman (Owings mill, MD/McDonogh) walk. Center fielder John Quigley (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) singled and Colon followed with a clutch double tying the score. Later in the inning, catcher Marc Wagner (Collegeville, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) walked with the bases loaded forcing in the go-ahead run.
Kurtz then retired the Seahawks in the ninth, stranding a runner on second.
The Owls continue play on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. when they take on the Pittsburgh Panthers.
