HOMESTEAD, FL - Evansville quickly erased an early Temple lead, scoring 10 runs in the first two innings in handing the Owls a 26-10 loss at the Papa John Homestead Challenge on Saturday night.

The 26 runs scored tied a record for the most runs given up by a Temple team. The Owls gave up the same amount of runs to Delaware in an ECC Playoff game back on May 3, 1980.

Temple (2-1) took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks in part to an Al Roach (Medfore, NJ/Shawnee) two-run homer. But Evansville (6-3) took advantage of some ineffective pitching by Owl starter Bryan Stamm (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) to take a commanding 10-4 lead after two innings.

The Purple Aces extended that lead to 16-4 after five innings and never looked back from there.

Roach led the Owls with a pair of hits along with four runs batted in. Shortstop Jason Connor (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) knocked in a pair of runs with a couple of hits while freshman Dan Brady (Havertown, PA/Haverford) came off the bench and got his first two hits in an Owl uniform.

The Owls meet Wagner on Sunday morning at 11:30 as they continue play in the Papa John Homestead Challenge.
