AL ROACH NAMED ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
4.5.04 | Baseball
Roach began the week on a high note. He became the first Temple Owl in head coach Skip Wilson's 45-year tenure to hit two grand slams in one game. The feat was accomplished in a 19-1 romp over the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday, March 29. His first grand slam came in the fourth inning off starter Dereck Casper and the second off reliever James Walls in the sixth. Roach finished with nine runs batted in. He followed that game up with a four-hit performance in the Owls' 15-9 victory over Navy on Tuesday, March 30th.
Roach finished the week with seven hits in 10 at-bats. He also scored seven runs and had 10 RBI's.
The senior is currently hitting .423 with 33 hits in 78 at-bats. His hitting surge is one of the reasons the Owls sport a 12-7 overall record and are currently riding a six-game winning streak.
After a rained-out weekend against Xavier, Temple travels to Towson University for an afternoon contest beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Xavier three-game series has been rescheduled for May 20th and 21st.
