JOHNSON AND HENDY PLACE FOURTH IN LONG JUMP AND JAVELIN AT A-10 MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Steve Johnson placed fourth in the long jump and qualified for the finals in the 100 meters, while junior Jake Hendy, a newcomer on the Owls' football and track & field team, placed fourth in the javelin as the Temple men's track team is currently in seventh place (10.5 points) on the first day of the 2004 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Richmond at Sports Backer Stadium on Saturday May 1.
Johnson, one of the Owls' most consistent performers all season, placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.95 meters (22-09.75 feet) and qualified for the 100-meter dash final with a time of 11.66. The 100- meter dash is scheduled for 11:40 a.m.
Hendy, a punter and quarterback on the gridiron, launched the javelin 54.27 meters(178.01 feet) to place fourth in championships contributing five points to the overall team score.
Junior Jon Albright qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.94, the second fastest time of the day. The 110-meter hurdles final is scheduled for Sunday at 10:55 a.m.
Senior co-captain Craig Henry, who holds the top mark in the conference, will compete for the triple jump title tomorrow. The triple jump final is scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m.
The meet will continue tomorrow with the men's decathlon at 8:45 a.m.
The last scheduled event is the men's 4x400 meter relay at 2:25 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony. The first and second place performers of each event are named to the First and Second -Team All-Conference, respectively.
