AMBLER, PA - Rider took advantage of a six-run first inning and went on to hold off the Temple Owls, 9-8, in a non-conference game played at Temple's Ambler Field on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.

The Broncs (19-25) got three hits from Mike Poalise and four RBI's and a save from Justin Roszkowski in holding off the Owls.

Temple's Mike Weckenman and Jason Connor led the Owls with a pair of hits each while Justin Cooper and Al Roach drove in a pair of runs.

The Broncs wasted little time jumping on starter and loser Chris Hamilton (1-2) in the opening frame. Following a single and walk, second baseman Jonathan Rehm singled in a run. After a strikeout, Jordon McCreedy made it 2-0 with a single down the left field line. The hit knocked Hamilton out of the game and Josiah Platchek came on in relief. Poalise greeted Platchek with an RBI single and following a popout and a walk, Roszkowksi capped the six-run inning with a bases clearing double.

Temple (20-23) came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, all with two outs. Connor singled and scored on a double by Roach. Pete Colon then delivered an RBI single to center to score Roach.

Platchek settled in and retired the Broncs (19-25) in the second and third as the Owls edged closer with a pair of runs in the third. Weckenman singled and scored on a triple by Connor who scored on a groundout by Roach.

The Owls came within a run in the fourth on a solo home run by designated hitter Nick Fasano, his second of the season.

Meanwhile, Platchek held the Broncs scoreless until he was touched up for a run in the sixth. Poalise singled and went to third on a double by Bryan Wagner. Poalise then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Roszkowski.

Rider got single runs against Temple reliever Tim Foulkrod in the seventh and eighth innings to take a 9-5 lead before the Owls made a game out of it.

The Broncs brought in Evan Garcia and wildness would prove to be his undoing. Colon and John Quigley reached by getting plucked by Garcia. With one out, Eric Weiner came on and walked Freddy Hilliard. One out later, Cooper delivered a big two-out two-run single to bring the Owls to within a pair of runs. Weckenman followed with an RBI single but Weiner struck out Connor to end the threat.

Roszkowski, who began the game at third, came on in relief in the final frame to close out the Owls and pick up his second save of the season.
