PHILADELPHIA -- It will be a festive atmosphere Saturday at Temple's Ambler Field as the Owls' baseball team holds its "Day in Centerfield". Besides its annual picnic for former players and boosters, Temple will hold its official "Grand Opening" of its new field prior to the start of Saturday's noon doubleheader against Atlantic 10 Conference rival Fordham. In between games, legendary head baseball coach James "Skip" Wilson will be honored for recording his 1,000th career coaching win. The Owls defeated Manhattan College, 10-9, in Miami on March 14 for that historic win.

In his 45th season as the Owls head coach, Wilson currently sports a career coaching record of 1,015-787-27 (.564). The Owls are currently 21-22 during the 2004 campaign.

Wilson has directed the Owls to 14 NCAA Tournaments, including appearances in the 1972 and 1977 College World Series. The long-time coach has guided the Owls to three Atlantic 10 Conference Championships - in 1983, 1984 and most recently in 2001. Temple won seven East Coast Conference (previously known as the Middle Atlantic Conference) titles from 1972-1982.

Named the District Coach of the Year three times (1972, 1977 and 1978), Wilson was honored by Temple on February 16, 1981, when he was inducted into the Temple Hall of Fame. Wilson also had the distinction of being inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on January 11, 1987, and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on April 7, 1994.
