PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University head fencing coach Nikki Franke announced the addition of five recruits to the Owls' 2004-05 team. "This is one of the largest and most talented recruiting classes in recent years," Franke said. Joanna Drews, Brianna Ferrara, Kristine Jones, Samantha Myles and Marla Nacey will join the Owls for the 2004-05 season.

Joanna Drews, from Derwood, Md., will join the epee squad in the fall. "Joanna has been working hard this past year and has impressed me with her desire and commitment to improving her technique," Franke said.

Brianna Ferrara, from Centenniel, Colo., will also join the epee squad in the fall. "Brianna is an excellent athlete. She will add power and depth to our epee squad in the fall," Franke said.

Kristine Jones, from Teaneck, N.J., is the lone recruit who will join the sabre squad in the fall. According to Franke, "Kristine will most likely be switching to sabre from foil when she arrives at Temple in the fall and she is very excited about making that change."

Samantha Myles, from Snohomish, Wash., is the only recruit who will join the foil squad in the fall. "Samantha is a strong foil fencer who has a great deal of competitive experience and will add to the strength of the foil squad," Franke said.

Marla Nacey, from Rochester, N.Y., will join the epee squad in the fall. According to Franke, "Marla will be one of the young leaders of the epee squad. She is a strong fencer with a lot of national experience. We look forward to working with her."

Overall, Franke likes the work ethic and enthusiasm of the recruiting class. "I am very impressed with their fencing experience and the academic capabilities they will bring to our program."
