BASEBALL DROPS 9-5 DECISION TO BUCKNELL
5.4.04 | Baseball
Shortstop Jason Connor had a double and home run for the Owls knocking in three runs in the process. Temple also got two hits off the bats of Mike Weckenman and Al Roach.
Temple (17-20) trailed 1-0 heading into the visitors fourth and tied the game on a double by Connor and a double steal attempt that saw Justin Cooper tagged out at second as Connor crossed the plate.
The Bison (20-24) erupted for five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-1 lead. In the inning, Bucknell scored all five runs off loser Tim Brown (1-2) with the help of five doubles. Three of those doubles came off Brown while the final two doubles came off reliever Chris Hamilton.
The Owls came back with four unearned runs of their own in the top of the fifth. Mike Silverman walked pinch-hitting for Freddy Hilliard. Third baseman Mike Weckenman singled and Roach reached on an infield error to load the bases. The first run of the inning scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of John Quigley and Connor followed with a three-run homer to bring the Owls to within 6-5.
However, the Bison would plate single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth to hold off the Owls as starter Tim Peacock (2-2) got credit for the win.
Temple heads back on the road on Wednesday when they travel to Easton, Pennsylvania to take on the Lafayette Leopards. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
