MEN'S VARSITY 8 ONE STEP CLOSER TO DAD VAIL TITLE

PHILADELPHIA -- The men's crew Varsity 8 took first place (6:06.4) in its qualifying heat Friday on the Schuylkill River moving the team closer to successfully defending its 2003 Dad Vail Regatta title. The Varsity 8 will next compete in the semi-finals of the Dad Vail on Saturday, May 8. Temple's semi-final Varsity 8 race is scheduled to start at 10:23 a.m. Saturday.
The Owls' Varsity 8 will race in lane three versus Florida Tech (lane one), Lehigh (lane two), Army (lane 4) and Drexel (lane 5). The top two finishers from this semi-final race will advance to the Varsity 8 final set to start at 4:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The boat consisted of Mike Fitzpatrick (cox), Kevin Kelly, Marc Stevens, Jon Hanlin, Dave Insogna, Mike Murray, Zach Ben-Dov, Logan Hoffman and Joe Spencer.
The men's JV 8 also took first place (5:57.9) in its qualifying heat on Friday and will next compete in the finals against Minnesota (lane one), St. Joseph's (lane two), Army (lane three), Purdue (lane five) and Drexel (lane six). The race is set to begin at 2:39 p.m. Saturday. The men's JV 8 boat consisted of Carmen Conicelli (cox), Matt Godfrey, TJ Burke, Andy Mantzoukas, Patrick McMahon, Jason Bohot, Brian Campbell, Mike McVeigh and Mike Shisler.
The men's Freshman/Novice 4 finished in second place (7:08.2) in its qualifying heat on Friday and will next compete in the semi-final round versus Duquesne (lane one), St. Thomas (lane two), Tennessee UTC (lane three), Marietta (lane four) and Wichita State (lane six). Temple's Freshman/Novice 4 semi-final race is set to start at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday. The top two finishers from this race will advance to the finals. The boat consisted of Ryan Flood (cox), Chris Bushek, Matt Hanlin, Dante Cammarata, Tim Lowery.
The men's Varsity 4 took third place in a time of 7:10.3. The boat consisted of Garho Kametani (cox), Andy Tobiasen, Dan Samarin, Rob Shamberg, John Stackhouse.
