VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO MORE AT AU CLASSIC

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Temple volleyball team lost to No. 15 Arizona and host American University, each by the score of three games to none in day two of the AU Classic. Game scores for the Arizona match were 25-30, 29-31 and 23-30. Games scores for the American match were 25-30, 24-30 and 23-30. The losses drop Temple to 2-8 on the season as the Owls failed to win a game during the weekend.

Senior outside hitter Zhen Jia Liu led the Owls in their match against the 15th-ranked Wildcats with 15 kills and was the only Temple player with double figure kill numbers. Senior setter Alison Runk had 31 assists.

Bree Ladd led Arizona with a match-high 16 kills and was joined in double digits by Kristina Baum who registered 13 kills. Setter Stephanie Butkus had a match-high 40 assists as the Wildcats out-hit the Owls, .421 to .196.

Ying Sun Ling led Temple in its match against American with 11 kills in her most productive offensive output of the season. Zhen Jia Liu added nine kills and Alison Runk had 24 assists. Liu was the only Temple player named to the all-tournament team, the second consecutive weekend she has earned an all-tournament honor.

Cutrina Biddulph paced American with a match-high 14 kills while setter Courtney Mulford had a match-high 34 assists. In what was a recurring theme for the weekend, the Owls were out-hit in this match, .320 to .117.

Temple will next travel to Connecticut where it will participate in the Fairfield Fall Classic beginning with a match against St. Louis on the campus of Fairfield University on Friday, September 24. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.
