HANOVER, N.H. -- The Temple men's soccer team's trip to New Hampshire ended in heartbreak as the Owls fell to host Dartmouth, 3-2 in overtime, in the final round of the adidas/Hypertherm Classic on Sunday at Chase Field.
Junior Amar Takhar tallied the game-winning goal in the 96th minute overtime and also added an assist to lead the Big Green. Takhar's goal came following a deflection in front of the net. He volleyed the ball over freshman goalkeeper Tony Prattico's outstretched hands to give Dartmouth the win. Prattico had replaced starter Patrick Hannigan (four saves) in goal to begin the second half.
Temple opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Ryan McMullan crossed the ball to Ryan Heins, who took a low shot that slipped by Big Green goalkeeper Rowan Anders. It was Heins first goal of the season. Dartmouth evened the score in the 35th minute when senior Scott Darci scored off an assist from freshman Tom Lobben.
Senior Sam Porter headed home a cross from Takhar in the 40th minute to provide the Big Green with a 2-1 advantage, but the Owls got the equalizer from Steven Bristow in the 66th minute. Bristow finished a crossing pass from Tony Donatelli for his second goal of the season.
The Owls, who fall to 3-5 on the season, open Atlantic 10 Conference play with their home opener Friday, October 1 against Rhode Island. It is a rematch of last year's A-10 championship game won by the Rams. It will also serve as the Grand Opening of Temple's new Ambler Soccer Field. The ceremony will start at 3:30 with the match slated to commence at 4:00 p.m.
