VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON WITH A 3-0 LOSS TO OHIO STATE

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team opened the 2004 season on its home floor as it hosted the Hampton Inn/Kaepa Temple Volleyball Classic on Friday, September 3. Unfortunately, the Owls' injury-depleted roster could not withstand an assault from visiting Ohio State and fell to the Buckeyes, 3-0. The game scores were 21-30, 17-30 and 22-30.

Sophomore Linsey Morningstar led Temple with seven kills and fellow sophomore Jessica Waybrant had six kills. Senior setter Alison Runk had 21 assists for the Owls.

Stacey Gordon led Ohio State with a match-high 19 kills while Danielle Meyer added 13 kills. Marisa Main had a match-high 42 assists for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State out-hit Temple .354 to .169 and the Buckeyes had 12 service aces while the Owls managed just one. Ohio State improves to 2-0 on the season with both of its wins coming against Atlantic 10 competition. The Buckeyes defeated Dayton in the season opener for both teams, 3-0.

The Hampton Inn/Kaepa Temple Volleyball Classic continues on Saturday, September 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m. as Ohio State takes on North Carolina, which bested Western Michigan, 3-0 in Friday's opening action. The Tar Heels are also 2-0. That match will be followed by Temple vs. Western Michigan at noon; Ohio State vs. Western Michigan at 3:00 p.m. and concludes with Temple vs. North Carolina at 6:00 p.m. All matches will take place at McGonigle Hall.
