TEMPLE KICKS OFF DUAL MEET SEASON WITH 8-2 FINISH AT NORTHWESTERN

EVANSTON, IL -- Temple women's fencing finished 8-2 at the Northwestern Multi Meet over the weekend. This weekend kicked off the dual meet season for the Owls. Coach Nikki Franke said she saw a lot of growth in her athletes over the course of the two day competition where the team had the opportunity to fence several Midwest schools.
Compteting colleges and universities included Univ. of Detroit Mercy, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, North Carolina, Univ. of California San Diego, Michigan State, Cleveland State, Wayne State, Lawrence, and Michigan.
The Temple Owls finished 23-4 against Univ. of Detroit Mercy, 21-6 against John Hopkins, 5-22 against Northwestern, 20-7 against North Carolina, 17-10 against Univ. of California San Diego, 25-2 against Michigan State, 25-2 against Cleveland State, 13-14 against Wayne State, 26-1 against Lawrence, and 20-7 against Michigan.
Freshmen Marla Nacey led the epee squad with a record of 15-4 over the weekend. Sophomore Rachel Eschenbach finished 12-7 and Freshmen Joanna Drews finished 12-9. Freshman Nina Bell ended the weekend with a 5-5 record and felloe freshman Brianna Ferrara finished 5-1.
Junior Maryanne Forsythe led the foil squad with an overall record of 18-3 on the weekend. Senior Jeanne Browne finished 17-4 and Freshmen Samantha Myles finished with only a single loss and a record of 14-1. Junior Jenna Remmert finished 13-3 and sophomore Leigh Adel- Arnold 10-4 respectively.
Freshmen Kristine Jones completed the meet with an overall record of 14-5 leading the sabre squad. Junior Keri Ecker finished 12-9 and Senior Nnenna Okoro 10-10. Sophomore Kaitlyn White and Junior Amanda Gerwer rounded out the sabre squad finishing 6-1 and 8-9 respectively.
This coming weekend on January 29th the Temple women's fencing team will compete at the Johns Hopkins Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland.
