OWLS FINISH 13TH AT BIG 5 INVITATIONAL

FLOURTOWN, PA - The Temple golf team shot a two round 646 (325-321) to finish 13th overall and fifth among the six city entries at the 2005 Philadelphia Big 5 Classic, played October 15-16 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Sophomore A.J. Tomasello was the Owls' top performer, carding a 14-over 156 (77-79) on the par 71, 6,843-yard course to finish tied for 38th in the 70-player field.

 

Richmond and George Washington finished with 592 totals to tie for the team title. The Spiders were declared the victors, however, when their No. 5 golfer shot a 79 on Sunday, while GW's No. 5 golfer shot an 83. Among the Big 5 schools, Villanova took top honors with a 37-over par 605. The Wildcats placed fifth overall, behind third-place Penn State (595, +27) and fourth-place Columbia (598, +30) in the 14-team field.

 

Villanova's Steve Arnold captured the individual crown, carding 142 (69-73) to win by one stroke over George Washington's Brian Carroll (70-73=143).

 

Junior James Boose, who has been the Owls' top player thus far this fall season, shot a 159 (77-82) to place tied for 53rd. Freshmen Adam Pifer (83-77=160, 56th) and Pat Rugg (88-83=171, 67th) comprised the rest of the Cherry & White scorecard. Junior Logan Terry was disqualified in Saturday's opening round before carding an 86 on Sunday.

 

Temple, under the direction of second-year coach Brian Rogers, concludes its Fall campaign at the Liberty Invitational, played tomorrow and Tuesday, October 17-18, at Poplar Grove Golf Course in Amherst, Va.
