PHILADELPHIA -- Angelo Booker, who has nearly 25 years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate and international levels, has been named an assistant track and field coach at Temple University, head coach Stefanie Scalessa announced. The Philadelphia native arrives on North Broad Street after serving as an assistant at Ursinus College. He will coach Temple's sprinters and hurdlers.

"I think Angelo will be an excellent addition to Temple," Scalessa said. "He is a quality individual with an exceptional ability to train and develop athletes.  He has an awesome passion for influencing athletes both on the track and in the real world."

Prior to coaching at Ursinus (2003-04), Booker spent time at Coatesville High School (2000-03), Roman Catholic High School (1997-00), and the University of Pennsylvania (1990-97). He began his coaching career at the University of Turobo (1987-89), located in Cagus, Puerto Rico.

"I'm very excited to be at Temple," Booker said. "I'm looking forward to bringing this program back to the national level in NCAA track and field."

Booker also assisted in the development of Olympic and World medal winners, Tony Dees and Jack Pierce, who finished second and third, respectively, in the 110m hurdles at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games.

A graduate of Philadelphia's Germantown High School, Booker attended Cal State University at Los Angeles. While there, he was a member of the track and field team that placed fourth at the 1982 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track Championships.
