#21/19 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FACES DREXEL IN SATURDAY HOME OPENER

PHILADELPHIA- Fresh off two wins which gave it the Women's Sports Foundation Classic title, the #21/19 Temple women's basketball team returns home to open the Liacouras Center season on Saturday night. #21/19 Temple is riding a two game winning streak after defeating Michigan and Oregon to win the 7th annual Women's Sports Foundation Challenge held at the University of Oregon on Nov. 11-12. Temple defeated Michigan, 65-48 and host Oregon 51-46 en route to the title. Candice Dupree was named MVP of the tournament after averaging 15.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in two games. Kamesha Hairston was named to the All-Tournament Team. In the win against host Oregon, Dupree scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, 13 defensive, for her first double-double of the season. She added three steals, one block and an assist to her all-star performance.
Drexel is coming off a 51-44 loss to Boston College in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. The Dragons took a lead over NCAA-qualifier BC just four minutes into the game and had the Eagles on the ropes until the 2:30 mark in the second half when a pair of free throws by Boston College's Aja Parham tied it at 44-44. Three turnovers in the final minutes cost the Dragons a first-round victory. Catherine Scanlon led all scorers with 16 points; a dozen came in the first half when Drexel pulled away to 30-22 lead. Nicole Hester grabbed eight rebounds.

After posting a 25-game winning streak last season, the Owls open 2005-06 with an active 12 game home winning streak
Nice to meet you
This is the first meeting for Drexel and Temple since the 1974-75 season, which Temple won 61-22. This is the ninth time that the teams have played, with the Owls leading the all-time series 5-3.
