VOLLEYBALL ADVANCES TO A-10 TITLE GAME WITH 3-1 WIN OVER XAVIER

KINGSTON, RI- Senior middle blocker Zhen Jia Liu totaled a match-high 20 kills to go along with 13 digs to lead Temple to a 3-1 victory over Xavier in the semi-final round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Yue Liu was credited with 18 kills and 15 digs while freshman middle blocker Patricia Vernon added 14 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Ying Sun Ling compiled 20 digs in the victory. Temple will face Dayton in the A-10 title game tomorrow night.
#2 Temple (23-9) outlasted third-seeded Xavier, 3-1 (22-30, 30-14, 30-20, 30-27).
For Xavier (19-11), junior outside hitter Danielle Skrajewski had 10 kills and 14 digs, while senior libero Jordan Brightwell made a match-high 22 digs for the Musketeers.
In the night's first match, Dayton junior middle blocker Faye Barhorst tallied 13 kills along with nine blocks (seven assisted, two solo), while freshman outside hitter Kortney Norris registered a team-high 16 kills in the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Kortney Norris (15 kills, .462 hitting percentage) and sophomore outside hitter Jamie-Lee Richards (10 kills, four blocks) rounded out four Flyers that compiled double-figures in kills.
Charlotte sophomore outside hitter Alma Arroyo and junior right side Jessica Oldenburg each tallied a match-high 17 kills for the 49ers, which finish their season with a 17-16 record.
Dayton will be playing for their third-straight A-10 Championship, while Temple will be in search of its fifth title and first since 2002. The Owls also won the championship three-straight times from 1997-1999.
