VOLLEYBALL SHUT OUT 3-0 BY LIU AND ALBANY IN DAY ONE OF TEMPLE INVITATIONAL

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's volleyball team had a rough day of competition during day one of the Temple Invitational, dropping matches, 3-0, to both LIU and Albany. The Owls, who fall to 23-12, face American tomorrow at 4 p.m. in their final match of the 2005 season on McGonigle Court. Game scores vs. LIU were 28-30, 28-30, 28-30, while vs. Albany results were 25-30, 27-30 and 27-30.
Though the Owls had a better hitting percentage than LIU (.202./.187), Temple was not able to overcome three Blackbirds in double attack figures, two of which earned double-doubles. Jade Gold, Lizelle Jackson and Martina Wagner all reached double digits with Jackson leading the pack with 18. Wagner and Gold had 12 and 11 respectively. Jackson also earned 15 digs, while Wagner had 13.
Patricia Vernon led Temple with 12 kills, while Zhen Jia Liu had 10 digs. Maira Mogollon tallied a double-double for Temple with 22 assists and 10 digs. Christina DeMarco blocked four opponent attacks to lead Temple.
In game two Vernon continued to shine, with 13 kills and six digs. Stephanie Buynovsky also had 13 kills, with just one error for a team-leading .462 hitting percentage.Mogollon remained consistent with another double-double, this time with 34 assists and 12 digs. Ying Sun Ling and Yue Liu also reached double figures in digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
Though Temple improved its play in the second half of the day, it could not withstand a series of 7-0 runs by the Great Danes, spearheaded by Ashley DeNeal and Ashley Crenshaw. DeNeal had 16 kills and 18 digs, while Crenshaw earned 12 kills with just one error.
