PHILADELPHIA -- Casey Fahy, who spent last season as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Siena, has been named an assistant baseball coach at Temple University, head coach Rob Valli announced today. A local product who starred at Gloucester Catholic (N.J.) High School and the University of Delaware, Fahy is the first addition to Valli's staff. He will oversee outfielders and base runners, as well as coach first base.

"Casey is a very bright and talented coach with a passion for the game of baseball," Valli said. "His knowledge and competitiveness allows him to be an excellent role model for our players. I've been fortunate to know Casey as a player and a coach for over ten years."

Fahy, 26, started at Siena in 2004 and helped turn the Saints into one of the MAAC's best programs. In 2005, the Saints posted a 29-23 record and went 19-5 in the MAAC to reach the postseason for the first time in four seasons.

"I'm excited to be a part of the new staff at Temple," Fahy said. "It is a program with a lot of history and I am looking to play a major part in helping Coach Valli re-establish Temple as a premier program in the Northeast."

The Clayton, N.J. native began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Rowan University after graduating from Delaware in 2002 with a bachelor of arts in history. He was an assistant coach at Delsea (N.J.) High School for one season and also assisted at Delaware from 2003-04. During the summer of 2004, Fahy was an assistant coach for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plains League.

As a player, Fahy batted .341 and broke the school's single season stolen base record (40) to earn second team All-CAA honors as an outfielder in 2002. He ranks second all-time in steals at Delaware with 79 and helped the Blue Hens to two America East championships and NCAA Regional appearances (2000, 2001).

Temple finished last season with a 17-33 record and 8-16 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Owls open their season on February 24 at LSU. The Tigers (40-22) were ranked #18 nationally in the final NCBWA and Sports Weekly/ESPN polls.
