PHILADELPHIA- Cynthia Jordan led four Owls in double figures with 15 points as the #20/22 Temple women (19-3, 11-0) took home their 16th straight win, a 68-49 victory over Saint Joseph's (5-18, 3-8) on Thursday night at the Liacouras Center. With their 11th win in the Atlantic 10, the Owls have clinched a bye in the opening round of the A-10 Tournament. Candice Dupree earned her tenth double double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds, 11 of which were defensive boards, while Kamesha Hairston tallied 13 points. Ashley Morris came off the bench to score 10 points off of 4-5 shooting from the field.
The first half was sloppy, with the Hawks committing 15 turnovers and the Owls turning the ball over nine times. Ari Moore began the scoring at 19:32 with a steal and a fast break lay-up. The score remained close, due to mutiple minutes with neither team scoring a basket. The Owls finally began to find their rhythm towards the middle of the half and were able to take a 33-23 lead into the lockeroom.
Temple began the second half with a 3-0 run and never looked back, as they led by as many as 25 points throughout the game.The Hawks continued to fight but could not overcome the large scoring deficit.
Moore scored eight points, while Jennifer Owens scored five points and tallied three steals. Jordan dished a game-high five assists.
Ayahna Cornish led the Hawks with 13 points, while Faith Schutte chipped in with 10.
