PHILADELPHIA - The No.15/15 Temple women's basketball team (27-3,16-0 Atlantic 10) has received a No. 6 seed in the Philadelphia regional for the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The Owls will take on 11th-seeded Louisiana Tech (20-9) in the first round Sunday, March 20, at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, CT. This is the teams' first meeting.
Under the direction of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, Dawn Staley, the Owls enter the tournament riding a 24-game winning streak which is currently the longest win-streak in the nation. This is the third consecutive NCAA appearance for Temple, who earned the A-10 automatic bid after capturing the conference title last week.
Third-seeded Rutgers and 14th-seeded Hartford join the Owls in the Storrs pod. The Owls defeated the Scarlet Knights earlier this season, to gain their first victory over a ranked opponent since the 1989 season. Temple has never faced the Hartford Hawks.
