PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman pitcher Eric Fritz has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced today. The right-hander was 1-0 for the week and allowed just one hit in six shutout innings.

Fritz picked up his first collegiate win on Wednesday by tossing five innings of one-hit baseball in a 5-2 win at Penn. The rookie did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and struck out a batter.

A native of Rocky Hill, Conn., Fritz threw one inning of no-hit relief against Albany on Saturday. He is 1-1 with a team-best 1.35 ERA for the Owls.

Fritz, whose father Larry played for Skip Wilson from 1974-76, is the first TU rookie to earn conference honors since Jim Tully on March 8, 1999.

Temple (6-8) returns to the diamond on Tuesday at Maryland-Eastern Shore. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
