4.10.05 | Baseball
DAYTON, OH -- Dayton scored 12 unanswered runs to rally back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat Temple, 13-5, at Time Warner Cable Stadium on Sunday. Senior Pete Colon capped a torrid week by going 3-for-4 today with a homerun for the Owls. Colon has batted 10-for-18 (.556) with four homers and six RBI over his last five games. TU (7-17, 0-6 A-10) drops its ninth straight game and remains winless in conference play.
The Cherry and White got on top in the third with two runs off UD starter Kaleb Thompson. Freshman Tom Dolan singled and stole second but was thrown out at the plate on senior Harry Ley's double. Senior Jason Connor then doubled down the left field line to score Ley and classmate Justin Cooper, who had walked.
Dayton (20-11, 7-2) answered with a single run in the bottom of the third to cut the TU lead to 2-1 but the Owls scored one in the fourth and two more in the sixth to extend the advantage to 5-1. Senior Mike Weckenman reached on an error and scored on junior Marc Wagner's RBI single in the fourth. Weckenman and Colon hit back-to-back dingers to open the sixth frame and chase Thompson (5.1 IP, 4 ER). Unfortunately, it was the last of the TU offense for the day.
Junior Tim Foulkrod cruised through the first five innings, allowing only one earned run and three hits. The right-hander ran into serious trouble in the sixth, giving up nine runs as eighth straight batters reached base, seven via a base hit. Freshman Steve Develin replaced Foulkrod (3-3) and allowed two earned runs in three innings pitched as UD added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Ley, Connor and Weckenman all had two hits for Temple.
The Flyers pounded 18 hits as all nine starters had at least one. Bryan Chandler led the charge with a 4-for-5 outing. Kyle Lindsay (3-1) recorded the victory with 3.2 innings of shutout relief.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday at La Salle at 3:30 p.m.
