VARSITY 8 FINISHES THIRD IN GRAND FINAL AT KNECHT CUP

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ -- Temple men's crew competed at the Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday, racing in the Varsity 8, JV8, Varsity 4 and Novice 4 events on the Cooper River. The JV 8 won the straight final on Saturday, while the other three crews raced in the heats and semis on Saturday qualifying for the Sunday finals.
The Varsity 8 of Carmen Conicelli (cox), Andreas Mantzoukas (stroke), Matt Hanlin (7-seat), Thomas Haubrich (6-seat), Robert Protesto (5-seat), Thomas Burke (4-seat), Joe Spencer (3-seat), Michael McVeigh (2-seat), and James Harding (bow) finished third in the grand final. Marist won the final in a time of 5:54.6 followed by GW (5:58.3), Temple (5:59.9), Army (6:00.1), Saint Joseph's (6:02.3) and Lehigh (6:06.6).
The JV 8 of Michael Fitzpatrick (cox), Logan Hoffman (stroke), Brian Campbell (7-seat), Chris Bushek (6-seat), Don Powers (5-seat), Dante Cammarata (4-seat), Pat McMahon (3-seat), Cyrus Haines (2-seat), and Mike Shisler (bow) won the grand final in a time of 6:21.10 followed by Marist (6:25.6), Army (6:28.60), Saint Joseph's (6:33.30), Lehigh (6:47.00), Delaware (7:08.60) and Drexel (7:32.40).
The Frosh/Novice 4 of Dante Castellani (cox), Bill Gennaro (stroke), Nicholas Vlahos (3-seat), John Peterson (2-seat), and Pat White (bow) finished second in the grand final. NY Maritime won the final in a time of 7:00.5 followed by Temple (7:07.1), Wichita State A (7:10.2), Pittsburgh (7:15.1) Washington College (7:28.3) and Dowling (8:04.1).
The Varsity 4 of Garho Kametani (cox), Ben Carroll (stroke), Don Powers (3-seat), Jason Hart (2-seat), and Tim Malloy (bow) finished fifth in the grand final. Dowling won the final in a time of 6:50.0 followed by Lehigh A (6:55.2), Marist (6:59.3), Loyola (6:59.6), Temple A (7:17.6) and Boston College (7:19.5).
The Owls compete against Syracuse and Georgetown next Saturday in Philadelphia.
