BUCKNELL POUNDS TEMPLE, 15-4

4.19.05 | Baseball

AMBLER, PA -- Bucknell pounded 17 hits off a trio of Temple pitchers and coasted to a 15-4 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Ambler Field. The Bison scored four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and three more in the seventh to break open a 3-1 game and send the Owls packing with a loss for the 13th time in the last 14 contests. Freshman Tom Dolan was 3-for-4 for the Cherry and White.

The Bison (9-22) got on the board first, scoring two runs off TU (8-21) freshman starter Eric Fritz (1-3). The Owls had a good chance to score a handful of runs in the second but managed only a single tally on an RBI groundout by senior Matt Lafferty.

Seniors Mike Weckenman and Pete Colon opened the frame with singles to bring up sophomore Dan Brady. Brady hit his team-leading tenth double to the gap in right-center, but neither runner scored on the play and the hosts managed only the one run to make the score 2-1.

Fritz stranded the bases loaded in the third after BU added another run, but was not as lucky in the fifth. Bucknell scored four runs in the frame, thanks in part to two triples, and took an 8-2 advantage. The visitors would continue to add to the lead scoring six more in the next two innings to run away with the win.

The Owls showed signs of life in the eighth, scoring two runs. Junior pinch-hitter Jason Adamek doubled for the first TU hit since the fifth inning and Dolan connected for his third single of the day. A senior Jason Connor RBI-single plated Adamek and Dolan scored on a sophomore Nick Fasano fielder's choice.

Ryan Gryskewicz earned the win for the Bison, throwing six innings and allowing one earned run to improve to 1-1 on the season. Fritz (4.2 IP, 7 ER) suffered the loss. Ten Bucknell players hit safely, led by Chris Brannan's 3-for-5, 3 RBI performance.

Temple travels to Towson tomorrow at 3 p.m..
