COLON'S THREE HOMERUNS NOT ENOUGH IN 13-11 LOSS TO DELAWARE

AMBLER, PA -- Senior Pete Colon launched three homeruns but Delaware had 17 hits off five different Temple pitchers in a 13-11 Blue Hen win on Thursday at Ambler Field. Colon led off the fourth and sixth innings with a solo shot and added a three-run blast in the seventh. TU, which lost for the sixth straight time, tied season-highs in hits and runs.

The struggling Temple (7-14) offense got on track on Thursday on a windy day at the ballpark. Colon, who hit his dingers to left, left-center and center, respectively, wasn't the only Owl to take advantage of the conditions. The Cherry and White combined for seven extra-base hits, including an eighth inning homerun from junior Jason Adamek and two doubles from senior Mike Weckenman.

Delaware (12-15) capitalized on a young TU contingent on the hill, which included four rookies and the first career start of freshman Carl Taylor. Taylor (0-1) threw well for four innings, allowing only a second inning run and scattering four hits. The right-hander ran into trouble in the fifth as the Blue Hens tacked on four runs. Freshman Tom Dolan was the most effective of the quintet of Owls, pitching the final two innings without giving up a run.

Temple rallied back from several deficits after falling behind 5-4 in the fifth, but would not come any closer than one run for the rest of the contest. Trailing 11-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Owls scored four runs in the frame with Colon's three-run homer accounting for most of the damage. UD scored two more in the top of the eighth, but Adamek's round-tripper to right and an RBI double by Weckenman put the hosts within two at 13-11.

Delaware also used five pitchers and Matt Heppner (1-2) earned the win with two innings of relief. Brock Donovan went 5-for-5 with four RBI to pace the Blue Hens.

The Cherry and White travel to Dayton (17-11, 4-2 A-10) for a three-game Atlantic 10 series this weekend. The two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday and a single nine-inning game on Sunday. Start times are set for 12 p.m. and both live statistics and streaming audio will be available via www.daytonflyers.com.
