5.16.05 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple freshman Tom Dolan has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Dolan batted .538 (7-for-13) with a double and three RBI and sported a 1.00 ERA in nine innings on the hill for the week.
Dolan, who is riding a four-game hitting streak, opened the week with a 1-for-3 performance on Tuesday at Delaware. On Wednesday, the southpaw took the mound for a non-conference match-up with city rival La Salle. He threw nine innings, scattering four hits, and allowed just one earned run while striking out four batters. The freshman earned the no-decision as Temple won the game on a walk-off homerun by Mike Weckenman in the 12th inning.
The centerfielder went 5-for-6 with two RBI during a doubleheader sweep of St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon and finished the week off with a 1-for-4 showing on Sunday against the Bonnies. He shares the award with Fordham's Cory Riordan.
Dolan is the third Owl to receive A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. Eric Fritz (3/21) and Frank Nunan (4/25) are the others.
Temple (15-31, 7-14 Atlantic 10) returns to the diamond on Tuesday at Seton Hall. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
