TEMPLE VOLLEYBALL TEAM TO TAKE 14-DAY TOUR OF CHINA

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University volleyball team is set to embark on a 14-day tour of China, where it will take on 13 different Chinese teams in the cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and ZheJiang. The tour, beginning on May 24 and ending on June 6, will feature match-ups against the Shanghai volleyball team, the Nanjing Sport School, the Jiang Su volleyball team, the Nanjing University volleyball team, the Jiang Su Sport School, the ZheJiang Sport School, the ZheJiang volleyball team, ZheJiang University, Fu Dong University, Fu Xing School, Hua Dong University, Tong Ji University and the Shanghai Sport School. In addition to competition, the team will also take in the sights, making stops at Dr. Sun Yet-Sun's Mausoleum and the Flowering Harbor, among others.

The tour will begin and end in Shanghai, the home of current Temple Assistant Coach Bai Qing Liu. The Owls will also visit Lu Zhi, the home of former Temple Assistant Yi Qing. In Head Coach Bob Bertucci's 10 seasons at the helm of the Temple program, the Owls have had six players and two assistant coaches from China.

The 2004 squad finished the season with an 11-3 record in the Atlantic 10. The Owls, led by freshman Yue Liu and senior Zhen Jia Liu, advanced to the semifinal round of the A-10 Tournament before falling to Xavier. Yue Liu was voted the A-10 Rookie of the Year after earning the Conferences' Rookie of the Week honor four times. Zhen Jia Liu and Allison Runk were named to the A-10's All-Conference First Team.
