TEMPLE VOLLEYBALL SHUTS OUT LEHIGH 3-0 IN SEASON OPENER

8.26.05 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team (1-0) defeated the visiting Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 3-0, to open the 2005 season.  Newcomer Maira Mogollon led the team with 34 assists, while senior captain Zhen Jia Liu posted a team high 14 kills.  The game scores were 30-17, 30-20, and 30-18 as the Owls dominated play throughout the match.

Ying Sun Ling was a standout for the Owls on the defensive end, as she recorded a game-high 12 digs.  Stephanie Buynovsky was finished the match with an impressive .615 attacking percentage, registering nine kills and just one error. 

 

Michelle Schwendenmann led the Mountain Hawks with 10 kills, while Kathleen Lafferty dished a team-high 26 assists.

 

Temple will face Towson at 12:30 p.m. and Rutgers at 7:00 p.m., while Lehigh will take on the Scarlet Knights at 10 a.m. tomorrow to open play and the Tigers at 4:30 p.m.

In previous action, Rutgers and Towson battled in a five game match with the Tigers coming out on top 3-2.  Towson's balanced attack resulted in four different players registering double digits in kills, while Kimberly Snider was dominate in the setter position, tallying 47 assists.  Jocelyn Greenwald dished 44 assists for Rutgers.  Game scores were 30-17, 31-29, 30-19, 30-28 and 15-10.
