VOLLEYBALL IMPROVES TO 3-0 WITH 3-0 WIN OVER RUTGERS

PHILADELPHIA- Temple finished the weekend's action with an unblemished 3-0 record, after knocking off Rutgers 3-0 in the final game of the Hampton Inn Temple Invitational. Temple dominated the first two games, with scores of 30-19 and 30-17, but struggled a bit in the third game. The Owls were able to regain their composure and finished off the Scarlet Knights 30-25.
Maira Mogollon continued to be a force in the front, earning 37 assists, while Ying Sun Ling displayed her defensive prowess with 14 digs. Yue Liu led the team with 18 kills, while Maureen Whitsett and Zhen Jia Liu contributed 10 and 12 a piece.
Rutgers took an early lead in the third game, fighting to stay alive. The Owls, however, battled back to tie the score at 14 and eventually took a a 17-16 lead. The Scarlet Knights refused to back down however and tied the score at 20. Temple remained stoic down the stretch and finished the set victorious.
Jocelyn Greenwald led Rutgers with 25 assists, while Courtney Stout was tops in digs with 14.
The Owls return to action next weekend when they travel to Hofstra to compete in the Hofstra Invitational. Temple takes on the host Pride on September 2 at 7:00 p.m. and return the next day to play Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne at 9:30 a.m. and Miami (Fla.) at 3:30 p.m.
