TEMPLE FINISHES DAY ONE OF RUTGERS INVITATIONAL WITH 3-1 LOSS TO RUTGERS

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.-After being defeated 3-0 in the 2005 season opener, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-7) bounced back to take down Temple (4-7) 3-1 in the opening round of the Rutgers Invitational on Friday night. Despite a all-star performance from senior Zhen Jia Liu, who tallied a match-high 26 kills, the Owls posted scores of 29-31, 30-19, 26-30 and 31-33.
Yue Liu recorded her first double-double of the season, earning 14 digs and 11 kills, while Ying Sun Ling led all players with 21 digs. Junior transfer Maira Mogollon also recorded a double-double, dishing 47 assists and garnering 13 digs. Freshman Patricia Vernon was also a standout on the attacking end, totaling 10 kills.
Temple returns tomorrow to take on Fairfield at 10 a.m. and UMBC at 3 p.m.
