PHILADELPHIA- After topping Atlantic 10 opponents Charlotte and La Salle last week, the Temple women's basketball team has risen five spots to #19 in the latest Associated Press Poll. The Owls were ranked #24 going into the week of January 2nd but two wins in Conference play and losses to unranked teams by Arizona State and Notre Dame allowed Temple to earn the Poll's biggest gain.

With its 18th consecutive week ranked in the AP poll Temple has broken the city record for consecutive weeks ranked. The original record of 17 was set by Saint Joseph's during the 1989-90 season.

After ending the 2004-05 season with a first-ever Top 25 ranking, Temple began the 2005-06 season with a first-ever Top 25 Preseason ranking. Associated Press listed TU as #21, while ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll ranked Temple #20. The Women's Basketball News Service projected the Owls to begin right around where they left, in the #16 spot. Street & Smith's ranked the Owls #19, while Lindy's Magazine placed Temple in the #23 position.

The Owls are 10-3 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play going into tomorrow night's game at George Washington. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
