PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team rebounded from its streak snapping 3-1 loss last Sunday at Rhode Island with a 1-0 shutout win over La Salle Friday afternoon. Junior midfielder Alli Lokey contributed her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the first half as the Owls improved to 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Overall, with the win, the Cherry and White match last season's win total (11-10) in improving to 11-4 while the Explorers drop to 4-11.
Lokey's tally, her fifth game-winning goal this season, was scored at the 10:26 mark and came courtesy from just one of the Owls two penalty corners on the afternoon. On the score, sophomore midfielder Mary Catherine Kinneman was credited with her fourth assist of the season while junior midfielder Leanne Vogelsong added her second feed this year.
The Explorer offense forced little pressure on Owls sophomore goalkeeper Erin Hanshue in firing just two shots - both sailing wide - in 70 minutes. Hanshue went without recording a save for her fifth shutout this season and now posts a 1.09 goals against average. La Salle junior goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen stopped five shots in the losing effort.
The Cherry and White will play their sixth game, in seven outings, on the road Sunday afternoon at local West Chester beginning at 12:00 p.m.
