PHILADELPHIA -
The Temple Owls, along with the entire Atlantic 10 and Conference USA and the Charlotte 49ers, join together to raise money for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation through the Dig For the Cure Match. Throughout the months of October, The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and November the Atlantic 10 teams are designating a home match in which sponsors are able to pledge money per dig or donate a flat rate towards breast cancer research. Temple's "Dig for the Cure" night will be Wednesday, October 25th when they play LaSalle at home.
This is the fourth year that the Charlotte 49ers have been committed to raising funds for the Koman Breast Cancer Foundation through "Dig for the Cure" night. With their dedication, the cause has spread to the Conference USA in 2004 and Atlantic 10 Conference in 2005. In the past three years, these schools together have combined to raise over $36,000 for the Foundation.
The Susan G. Koman Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Koman, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners, and generous donors, the Koman Foundation has raised more than $740 million for the fight against breast cancer.
Temple and the Atlantic 10 Conference is doing their part to support the Foundation and the fight against breast cancer. Anyone interested in pledging money or making a donation to this year's Dig For The Cure effort can contact Charlotte head coach Lisa Marston by e-mailing her at ermarsto@email.uncc.edu.
