Temple Holds Divisional Lead Despite 3-0 Loss to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC - Temple holds the led in the A-10 eastern division over Charlotte even after tonight's three game loss at Halton Arena. Fighting for the divisional lead, the 49ers took Temple with the game scores of 30-28, 30-25, 30-28 securing their spot in the tournament next weekend. TU slips to 15-13 overall and 7-5 in A-10 play, while the win pushes Charlotte to 19-11 overall and 6-6 in league play.

The match was a back and forth battle with the Owls pushing Charlotte in all three games. Taking Charlotte down to the wire in both games one and three, junior Yue Liu led the offensive fight for the Owls with 21 kills and two blocks. Patricia Vernon held her own adding 10 kills, three blocks, and one service ace. Juniors Christina DeMarco and Ying Sun Ling each contributed seven kills to Temple's 50 kills for the match. On the defensive end, Yue Liu led once again with 13 digs while teammates Ying Sun Ling (12) and senior Yan Liu (10) contributed significantly.

Lynae Mulder led the Niners with 15 kills and a .481 attack percentage. Cori Dayton added 12 kills for the evening. Defensively, Carly Romberg made 15 digs, while junior Alma Arroyo had 14 digs. Junior setter Eden Ramos had 44 assists for the Niners.

Temple, which has led the Eastern Division for the majority of the regular season, has dropped three of its last four and needs a win Saturday George Washington (6:00 pm) to earn a first round bye in next weekend's A-10 tournament.
