Owls Land Second Seed at A-10 Tournament

PHILADELPHIA - For the first time since 1994, six teams will take part in the 25th annual Atlantic 10 Women's Volleyball Championship, which commences on Friday, Nov. 17, at the Frericks Center on the campus of the University of Dayton. Dayton, Temple, Saint Louis, Xavier, Charlotte and Fordham will compete for an automatic berth into the 2006 NCAA Volleyball Championship.
Twelve-year head coach Bob Bertucci will lead the Temple volleyball team into the Atlantic 10 tournament this weekend for the program's 21st time since 1984. This season, the Owls will look to capture their first title since 2002 after finishing 29-7 overall in regular season play, the most since 1997. The Owls have been led by junior Yue Liu on both the offensive and defensive end this season with 420 kills and 363 digs. She ranks number 2 on A-10 leaders in kills, while junior Christina DeMarco is third in the conference with a .331 hitting percentage. TU finished as the runner-up in the 2005 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Securing a first round bye finishing as the #2 seed in the A-10 Conference with an 8-5 conference record, Temple takes on the winner of #3 Saint Louis/ #6 Fordham or #4 Xavier/ #5 Charlotte against the highest seed on Saturday, November 18 at 5:00pm.
The title game of the Atlantic 10 Championship is set for Sunday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets to the Atlantic 10 Women's Volleyball Championship will be available at the Frericks Center ticket office the day of the matches. A single day ticket may be purchased for $5 for adults or $3 for A-10 students, children 18 and under, and senior citizens. A three-day pass is available for $10 for adults and $5 for A-10 students, children 18 and under, and seniors.
