PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's women's basketball will have its greatest radio exposure in the program's 65-year history with the addition of six games during the 2006-07 season on The Big Talker, 1210 AM WPHT, a 50,000 watt CBS RADIO-owned station.
"The opportunity to provide commercial radio exposure for women's basketball was one of our primary concerns in terms of radio coverage when we signed a multi-year agreement with WPHT," said Temple University Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. "We not only have accomplished this, but we have been able to put together a radio package of high-level Temple women's games for our fans in the Delaware Valley."
Dawn Staley's Temple Owls will make their debut on The Big Talker, 1210 AM WPHT on Monday, November 20 (7:00 p.m.) when they host Georgia Tech in their home opener. The three-time defending A-10 Champion's remaining WPHT radio schedule includes a date with 2006 NCAA Champion and top-ranked Maryland on Dec. 10 (2:00 p.m.); Rhode Island, the second half of a men's-women's doubleheader on Jan. 20 (4:30 p.m.); at Saint Joseph's on Jan. 28 (2:00 p.m.); La Salle on Feb. 12 (7:00 p.m.) and at George Washington on Feb. 25 (2:00 p.m.).
Joe Heyer, who has been doing play-by-play on the internet for Temple women's basketball, will team with Temple Associate Athletic Director and former Owl coach Kristen Foley on the six commercial radio broadcasts.
The Temple women's basketball home games, as well as selected road games, can also be heard on the internet (www.owlsports.com) starting with the team's season opener at Drexel on November 17 (7:00 p.m.). Heyer will again call play-by-play on these broadcasts and will be joined by Ryan Feldman, who is entering his second season as a color analyst.
