Men's Crew Fall Season in Review

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team completed a successful fall season in preparation for the spring 2007 campaign. The Owls followed up their strong Navy Day Regatta showing with solid performances in the Princeton Chase Regatta, the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta and the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta. The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta was cancelled due to inclement weather.
At the Princeton Chase Regatta, held on Carnegie Lake, the Owls Varsity 8 "A" squad consisting of junior Don Powers (bow), freshman Scott Herring (2), junior Nick Vlahos (3), senior Chris Bushek (4), junior James Harding (5), senior Dante Cammarata (6), junior Bob Protesto (7), junior Tom Haubrich (stroke) and sophomore coxswain Tom Goldner finished in 12th place with a time of 15:01.
The Temple Varsity 8 "B" squad of senior Aaron McHargue (bow), sophomore Will Weaver (2), senior Matt Hanlin (3), freshman Brendan Alexander (4), freshman Erik Alexander (5), junior Bill Gennaro (6), senior Timothy Malloy (7), junior Sam Cunningham (stroke) and junior coxswain Rory Roberts finished in 24th place with a time of 15:27.
At the Frostbite Regatta, held in Philadelphia, the Owls Varsity 8 "A" squad, in adding Roberts as the coxswain, finished in first place with a time of 5:42.22.
The Temple Varsity 8 "B" squad, in adding freshman Pat Curran (2), senior Brendan Uhll (4) and sophomore Tom Goldner as the coxswain also placed first with a time of 6:02.88.
The Temple Varsity 4 squad, consisting of freshman Brad Long (bow), Rich Moore (2), junior Austin Phillips (3), sophomore James Beebe (stroke) and sophomore coxswain Mike Berger finished fifth. The men's Novice 8 finished second behind local rival St. Joseph's.
Lastly, at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta, the Owls fared well again. Coach Gavin White allowed his captains to choose boat lineups for the final regatta of the season. The Varsity 8 "A" squad won their race by 1.5 lengths over Ithaca and Penn State. The Varsity 8 "B" squad placed first by one length over Drexel and Loyola.
The men's Varsity 4 "A" consisting of Hanlin (bow), Gennaro (2), Malloy (3), Cunningham (stroke), and coxswain Berger won their race by less than a second over Penn State. The Temple Varsity 4 "B" squad consisting of McHargue (bow), Rich Moore (2), Phillips (3), Beebe (stroke) and coxswain Goldner finished third behind American University and Stony Brook. The Owls Novice 8 squad won their race, defeating Ithaca, Binghamton, and Penn State.
The Owls open up their spring 2007 schedule with the Keuper Cup in Felsmere, FL, on March 10.
