HOUSTON, TX-- Senior Jenna Remmert who received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships via her strong performance at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships concluded her Temple fencing career with a personal best 16th place individual foil finish at the NCAA Championships held Thursday to Saturday. Remmert has qualified to the NCAAs each of her four years at Temple. She was also joined by sophomore Brianna Ferrara and freshman Nina Gernes who finished 18th in foil and 23rd in epee respectively. As a team Temple finished 13th out of 22 teams.
For both Ferrara and Gernes this was their first NCAA Championship. Ferrara received Temple's only other automatic bid to the event from the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and Gernes received one of two of the entire country's at-large spots to the event.
Each individual event consisted of 24 competitors. The individual foil event was won by Erzsebet Garay of St. John's. Epee was won by Katarzyna Trzopek from Penn State. Mariel Zaunis, the 2004 Olympic Gold medalist from Notre Dame, took the individual sabre event.
