GERNES RECEIVES NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP AT-LARGE SPOT

PHILADELPHIA-- With the announcement of the NCAA Championships at-large spots, the Temple women's fencing team learned it will be sending three fencers to compete in the 2006 NCAA Championships. Freshman Nina Gernes received one of the country's two at-large spots to compete in the NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas next week. Gernes will join teammates Jenna Remmert, foil, and Brianna Ferrara, epee. Fellow freshman Ashlee Phillips was also submitted as an at-large candidate and was selected as the first alternate from the Mid-Atlantic/South Region in sabre.
Gernes placed eighth in the foil competition at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships in Durham, NC this past weekend. Phillips finished sixth in the sabre competition.
The NCAA Championships will take place March 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
