AMBLER, PA -- Rhode Island pounded 20 hits, including nine for extra bases, off three different Temple pitchers on its way to a 12-2 win over the Owls on Saturday afternoon at Ambler Field. All nine Ram starters had at least one hit on the day, led by Wayne Russo's four safeties. Junior Dan Brady and freshman Steve Mury homered for the Owls.

Rhode Island (20-6, 8-2 A-10) hit Temple starter Arshwin Asjes early and often, scoring seven runs (six earned) on 13 hits in four innings. The Rams really got to the sophomore in the fourth inning, scoring four runs in the frame, as two triples and a double provided most of the damage.

Offensively, Temple was shutdown by URI starter Steve Holmes through the first seven innings. Holmes, a junior auditioning in front of 15 scouts, allowed five hits and one earned run to improve to 6-1 this season. His only blemish was Mury's solo homer to right field in the fifth.

Sophomore Eric Fritz replaced Asjes in the fifth and threw three innings of solid relief. He allowed one earned run in four innings. The Rams added four runs in the ninth to produce the 12-2 final score.

Mury and sophomore Devon Swope each had two hits for Temple, which has lost nine straight games in A-10 play.

URI had five doubles and four triples on the day, running its total to 17 extra base hits in two games against the Owls.

Temple (7-25, 1-10) looks to avoid the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live statistics will be available via owlsports.com.
